TEFMA COVID-19 Webinar Series
Teaching Space Modelling to Facilitate Return to Face to Face Teaching with Social Distancing
At a time when we are still facing uncertainty of the future and unable to meet face to face, we are extending our current webinar calendar to cover a range of topics, COVID-19 related. Over the coming few months TEFMA aim to continually offer webinars on the lessons learned during this pandemic and bring to light any innovative ideas that are being shown across the sector by our peers and colleagues. It is hoped this webinar series will open the conversation between all of our members (business partners and associate members) as we gear up for an eventual return to Business as Usual.
We invite you to join our next webinar in this series. This webinar will be a standalone webinar, 30 minutes in length followed by a 10 - 15 minute Q&A session.
Presenters:
Brooke Jacobson, Curtin University & Matthew O'Halloran, SpaceCounts
Who should attend:
Space planning and timetabling staff and other academic and administrative personnel concerned with the problem of how to transition back to on-campus teaching and learning and accommodate all necessary activities whilst complying with social distancing requirements.
What you will get from the presentation:
Attendees to this webinar will hear how Curtin University Space Management took a proactive approach to resolving how the University would return to face to face teaching. With the assistance of data modelling, the Space team was able to get ahead of the discussion on which options may be viable for on-campus teaching with social distancing constraints. Different social distancing regimes and operating scenarios such as extended operating hours and mixed on-campus and off campus delivery patterns could be rapidly simulated. This informed decisions around academic staffing, subject delivery, timetabling and space management.
Participants will see how an existing space model was able to be rapidly adapted to be used for the scenario modelling required by Curtin University.
About our presenters:
Matthew O’Halloran is a founding partner of Space Counts, specialising in data analysis and modelling to assist Universities in making decisions about facilities, course offerings and timetabling. Matthew has qualification in Engineering, Arts and Law. He was previously Space and Timetabling Manager at James Cook University following a career of data modelling and facilities management in the Ports sector.
Brooke Jacobson is responsible for Space Management in Curtin University’s Planning team. She has a background in resource scheduling and has a strong commitment to achieving and maintaining sustainable utilisation of space to support the University’s strategic goals.
